The Origin of Superhero Saturday & PHX Met Con
Every great story has an origin.
For me, that story began with an unexpected friendship.

Over the years, I had the privilege of becoming friends with the late Jason David Frank. After my friends and I helped protect him from an assassination attempt at a large-scale pop culture convention, our friendship grew through a shared appreciation for fans, community, and the positive impact that pop culture can have on people’s lives. Those experiences sparked a simple but meaningful idea: create an event where families, first responders, creators, and fans could come together in a safe, welcoming environment while giving back to the community.
That vision became Superhero Saturday in 2019.
What started as a one-day charity event hosted by the Phoenix Police Sergeants and Lieutenants Association (PPSLA) quickly grew into something much larger. Every year, thousands of attendees gathered to celebrate comics, movies, gaming, cosplay, and the people who inspire us, all while raising funds for PPSLA Charities and organizations that serve children and families throughout Arizona.
As the event continued to grow, so did the vision.
That next chapter is PHX Met Con.
While the name has changed, the mission remains the same: to celebrate imagination, creativity, and community while supporting charitable causes and creating an unforgettable experience for fans of all ages.
